Big Girl Bed!

Yes, Shanna isn't even 2 yet, but since I had the time this summer and the bed for when we moved into our house a few weeks ago, I decided to make a little quilt for her. The bed is actually part of a bunk bed but, since we only have Shanna we decided not to put it all together. So I went to JoAnn Fabrics and picked out 3 different materials. I had in mind the colors for her room: green, light pink, and red. When I spotted the strawberry shortcake fabric I just about died because it was so perfect. Then finding the other two materials was a breeze. Now, its not actually a quilt, per say, but I did cut out blocks and sewed them together like you would with a quilt. It actually has a comforter and the part I sewed actually is the cover that the comforter slips in to, like a duvet, for those of you who know that word (I didn't, I had to google it) :) And then because I had one too many rows on the quilt part, I used the remaining row to sew onto the end for the pillowcase. The pink material is actually the material I used for the underside of the blanket. It was very fun and I enjoyed learning how to use my machine (by myself). Of course you wouldn't want to look too close at the squares because the majority aren't lined up. But I really had fun, so thats all that matters right?! So for now it sits in Shanna's room unused, but there's no hurry in my opinion. Right now Shanna is semi contained and its working out marvelously! :)

Super cute! Oh, and I've been meaning to call you--we have one of Shanna's jackets. I'll have to get that back to you sometime. :)

Very Nice! I love the colors. She sure is growing up fast! I got to talk to her today on the phone and I can't believe she's so big!

Adorable!! You did so great! Shanna is one lucky little girl. I still remember the pink quilted covers my Mom made for our beds growing up. That is a big deal!

Wow! You act like it was no big deal and it came together perfectly. You are an inspiration my dear. I have been collecting jeans for a quilt for years. I think I could make several quilts by now, but am too scared to start. My last attempt didn't work out so hot:( It looks great! Love the colors. Love Strawberry Shortcake:)

I love Strawberry Shortcake. You are amazing. So domestic. :) I personally don't enjoy sewing because I spend all my time undoing stuff.

I have some Strawberry shortcake jpegs etc. if you want to scrapbook your work of art!

Wow, that's super cute! I like the colors you picked, and it's perfect to have the strawberry shortcake fabric! My Mother-in-law is going to teach me how to make a quilt over this Christmas break. I'm excited to pick out the fabric and make it with pretty colors!
